Extreme
Imaging
Competition

Prize Details

The prize will be awarded for the best student research prize in the area of "extreme imaging". This is NOT a photography competition. It is for a supervised research project in the area of imaging science, including photography and videography. Example topics would be: modifying a cheap camera to do something unusual, imaging at unusual wavelengths, ultra-fast photography, imaging in difficult environments, or "green" photography.

The prize will comprise $5000 for the winning student or students and $5000 for their supervisor. A Canon 5D Mark II DSLR will be awarded to the runner-up.*

Eligibility

The competition is open to any student, from any discipline of any university or similar tertiary institution in Australia, excluding current employees or those that have been employees of CiSRA in the twelve months preceding the time of submission.

*Conditions apply. Please refer to the entry form.

Judging

Judging of the projects will take into account the duration of the project, and the year of the students, and the extent of any supporting work done by others.

Judging will be carried out in two phases. The projects will be initially ranked by a panel of researchers comprising CiSRA and university representatives. They will produce a short list of 5 projects. Short-listed candidates may be required to produce further information or to make themselves available for interview. Final judging will be by a panel of CiSRA researchers.

Judging will be based on merit relative to opportunity, centered on:

  1. The novelty of the imaging application; and
  2. The impact of the imaging approach on its application
